Christie Widiarto is a Melbourne based artist who produces multimedia works including animation, projection, installation and street art. She has a Masters by Coursework in Fine Art (Film and Television) and a Masters by Research (Community Cultural Development) at the Victorian College of Arts (VCA), Melbourne University. Her work reflects her Chinese Indonesian background and her love of nature and storytelling. In 2013, she also was the Talking Difference Fellow at the Immigration Museum addressing race based discrimination and completed the Emerging Cultural Leaders course at the Footscray Community Arts Centre.
Christie’s films have been screened in festivals across Asia, North and South America and Europe. She has also presented papers on multiculturalism and street art at conferences in Portugal and Hawaii.
For the past 6 years, she has been a sessional lecturer at the VCA in the animation department, and is currently a Lecturer in Animation with Rosalie Osman. She has also run multimedia workshops and created art installations across Victoria with organisations such as Footscray Community Arts Centre, Polyglot’s 5678 Film Club, Signal Arts and YGLAM Queer Youth Theatre.
Her projects have been presented at the One Night in Footscray event 2019, Nillumbik Digital Agora 2019, West Projections Festival 2014 and 2016. She has received funding from Maribyrnong City Council, Nillumbik City Council, Melbourne City Council, Creative Victoria and the Australia Council for the Arts.
